What you're buying
Book One of a two-part memoir
He was a lab technician, a guitarist, a salesman and a holiday-resort entertainer. All before he turned thirty-five. Book One follows Robert Monk from a council house on the edge of Wolverhampton to a coral island in the Indian Ocean, by way of six Birmingham bands, a single on Logo Records and more curry than is strictly sensible.
Ten chapters take him from a small house in Wednesfield in 1952 to a coral island in 1986: grammar school and a sixth-form guitar club, a university lab and a record deal, a whirlwind marriage, and two seasons with Club Med in Greece and the Maldives.
